Araca-una (Psidium myrtoides) is a species of guava native to Brazil, especially found in the Atlantic Forest region. It's a lesser-known but delicious fruit in the Psidium genus, which includes other well-known guavas like the common guava (Psidium guajava).
The araca-una fruit has a round or slightly oval shape, with a thin, Dark Purple skin when ripe. Inside, it contains a juicy, fragrant pulp that’s typically white to pale pink. The taste is sweet, slightly tangy, and somewhat aromatic, which makes it unique compared to the more common guava varieties. It's also known for its small seeds, which are edible.
This fruit is enjoyed fresh, but it's also used in the production of juices, jams, and desserts. The tree that produces araca-una is usually small to medium-sized, and it prefers tropical or subtropical climates.
As for its nutritional profile, araca-una is a good source of vitamin C, dietary fiber, and antioxidants, offering some of the same health benefits as other guavas, like boosting immunity and improving digestion.
